guest preacher series resumes Reviving a custom from the 1990s, Christ Church will invite a great preacher from the wider church to visit us this summer to offer a public lecture on Saturday evening and preach at services on Sunday morning. On July 31-August 1 this year we will welcome the Rev. Dr. William H. Willimon, presently United Methodist Bishop of Northern Alabama, one of the best known and influential preachers of our time. Before becoming a bishop in 2004, Dr. Willimon served for twenty years as Dean of the Chapel and Professor of Christian Ministry at Duke University in Durham, NC.
music sunday In 2004, we had our first "Music Sunday" and we will continue this tradition with a performance of J. S. Bach's Cantata No. 82 on Sunday, August 8 at the 10:00 a.m. service. The cantata, which is scored for voice and chamber orchestra, will feature local baritone Scott MacCracken, an AMFS student string quartet, and Jamie Roberts on oboe. (Jamie performed as part of "Music Sunday" last year.)
